Cyanide Studio and Focus Home Interactive have announced a new game that takes a bit of a twist on a time honoured classic. Fans of the stealth genre are used to a bit of Solid Snake, perhaps a smartly dressed hitman, but how about a gnarled goblin?
Styx: Master of Shadows is a brand new ‘infiltration’ game that puts you in the shoes of Styx a small 200-year-old Goblin; a master in the arts of stealth, theft and murder, so you don’t want to mess with him. In Styx: Master of Shadows you’ll find yourself in the depths of the Tower of Akenash, a lofty structure that looms miles high and promises precious artifacts and the key to Styx’s mysterious origins.
Some may find Styx somewhat familiar, he starred alongside Arkail in Of Orcs and Men last year, fans of the game will be interested to know that the story in Styx: Master of Shadows takes place somewhat earlier than Of Orcs and Men, however as it is based in the same universe as you might expect, RPG elements are a feature and allow you to improve Styx’s various skills such as creating goblin clones or turning invisible.
Like any great stealthing character Styx obviously has his weaknesses, and most targets are twice his size so you must try and find the most effective strategy to complete your mission objectives in extremely open levels teeming with Humans, Elves and even Orcs that protect the tower, so you’ll have to study guard patrols, use light and shadow to your advantage and hide in whatever will hold the little guy.
You can expect to see Styx: Master of Shadows around Q3 of 2014 on Windows PC, be sure to keep an eye out for our impressions of the game.
