It’s the announcement that we didn't know was coming, but is oh so exciting! Space Hulk is returning to the video game world as a first person shooter. Space Hulk: Deathwing will allow players to experience the desperate battle against Tyranid Genestealers aboard the claustrophobic tunnels of a massive Space Hulk, unrelated to Full Control’s recent adaptation of the board game to the PC.
Developed in the Unreal Engine 4 by Streum On Studio the team behind E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy, Space Hulk: Deathwing will be published by Focus Home Interactive and co-produced by Cyanide Studio, and despite only offering a teaser trailer of the game, it is looking very exciting, and more importantly atmospheric!
If you’re unaware of the lore of the Games Workshop license Space Hulk, and are a fan of survival horror, you might be thinking, what’s the big deal? You’re a giant guy in a suit of armour, you shouldn't be scared of anything. But therein lies the fun of Space Hulk. You see, even a heavily armoured Space Marine from the most secret and feared Space Marine Companies: the Deathwing cannot claim to be unafraid of the Tyranid hoard, and a Genestealer is perhaps the most fearsome, and so walking the tunnels and hallways of the Space Hulk becomes akin to something out of an Aliens film, so we have our fingers crossed that it will be terrifying.
It's not just a simple run-and-gun though, and as a Space Marine Librarian you’ll be able to master destructive Psyker powers to help you survive against the ‘nids, and with a selection of skill trees you’ll be able to improve your abilities, unlock new powers and access powerful items to endure your exploration of the mountainous Space Hulk.
Space Hulk: Deathwing does not currently have a scheduled release date or prospective platforms, however we hope to see more of it, and that it’s every bit as atmospheric as the teaser leads on.
