Konami announced at E3 that they will be making a return to the mysterious mist-shrouded streets of Silent Hill as the eighth title in the series inches its way to Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. Unfortunately it has not been revealed which studio will be making the title, and as of yet there are no screenshots, however there is a trailer introducing us to a new character that will be let loose to the madness of the town of Silent Hill.
Players will control Murphy Pendleton, an inmate who is stranded in Silent Hill when the prison transport vehicle he is in careens off road. As Murphy you will encounter the usual thought-provoking puzzles, and horrific creature, using presumably the same combat system as Origins and Homecoming, you are armed only with the everday objects that you can find to fend off enemies, and the title is promised to appeal to fans of the early Silent Hill games.
“We are honouring the rich history and strong following of Silent Hill, and working hard to build another unforgettable horror game that the fans truly deserve,” commented Martin Schneider, European Marketing and PR Director for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “Silent Hill introduces an all-new storyline and unique evolutions in gameplay, building on innovations and successes from over a decade of true survival horror and terror.”
In an attempt to give the game a less linear path, in addition to the main storyline, players will be presented with variable side quests that will change depending on the user's play style. We love our survival horror games at Gamercast, and hope that Silent Hill 8, whatever it's name may be will be just as great as the series stands, regardless that Akira Yamaoka has left. Only time will tell when the eighth iteration of the Silent Hill series creeps to Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.
