Believe it or not the beloved Obscure franchise is back, yes that awkward slasher-esque teen survival horror that I for one loved to pieces it making a return, however it may not be exactly the same game that you used to adore!
In development at Mighty Rocket Studio, a few of the original creators of Hydravision’s Obscure remain on the project that has been in progress for over a year. Still inspired by the teen and horror movie genres, Obscure is an action-rich side scroller drenched in blood and humour!
Obscure features a single player story as well as local and online cooperative multiplayer you can play as one of four of the unlikely and stereotypical students that have their own unique skills and abilities that will develop throughout their adventure.
Obscure’s combat is set to focus on combos, counters and score multipliers as you survive against mountains of monsters that want to eat your innocent adolescent flesh! Despite the very different style of gameplay, the new and tasty Obscure embraces the origins of its name, and will incorporate many familiar elements of the survival horror genre with sparse ammunition, limited health kits and the dark, oppressive feeling of constant danger.
Whilst it is not the return to the traditional survival horror masterpiece, the new Obscure is looking pretty tight as side-scrolling brawlers go, and I for one embrace its new look, style and focus.
Fans of the game are also promised to feel a bit more at home with the included location of the famous Leafmore High School, as well as characters from the previous games in the series. Obscure is scheduled for a release on PC, PSN and Xbox LIVE in spring 2013!
