It's a bit tough being an Alien fan and a gamer, many games have tried and failed to capture the sheer terror that the original films inflicted back in the late seventies, though personally I've got a bit of a soft spot for Probe's Alien Trilogy. In all fairness though, the horror genre as a whole has taken a sharp turn for the worst with games like Dead Space, Silent Hill and Resident Evil opting for more action orientated fun than terror-inducing situations, and to be quite frank it's disappointing!
However Creative Assembly's console team has very recently announced their current title in the works; Alien: Isolation, set 15 years after the events of the original Alien, in it you take on the role of Ellen Ripley's daughter Amanda who is on a mission to recover the flight recorder of the infamous ship, the Nostromo. Check out the official trailer below.
Alien: Isolation will be swapping out the boring all-out shooting action that too many games cling onto, for eerily lit, and beautifully vacant spaces to help build the true terrifying nature of space as seen in the original films. Not convinced, well perhaps you should watch the official developer diary that literally explains why Isolation is not going to be yet another failure in the eyes of the fans.
Alien: Isolation is scheduled for release towards the end of 2014 for Windows PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
